"A doula is like a trail guide; familiar with the path, she keeps you hiking through the hard parts, knowing the view at the end is incredible." - Unknown
Summer Richards, CD (BAI)

Summer began her doula journey with her own births. Through becoming a mother, she discovered what was empowering and she became her own advocate. As a mother responsible for the lives and well-being of her children, she learned to be truly informed and became their advocate as well.
In her own journey, she met other mothers and realized the connecting factor - birth - and how much impact it has on a woman. After walking with several friends through their own journeys into motherhood, she found her calling - to help women in her community walk through the doors of new life (whether for the first time or the fifth) and help them see what they were all along.
Summer has completed her Birth Doula certification through Birth Arts International. Before becoming a doula, Summer was (and continues to be) a private tutor. She received her formal education in Child Development (Psychology meets Education) and Cross-Cultural Studies. She has six kids (one with Jesus and the others ages 1 to 8 years) and also homeschools. She is also currently pursuing a midwifery apprenticeship.
It is Summer's adamant belief that birth is a natural, normal process; that a woman's birth into motherhood impacts her for the rest of her life, regardless of whether the outcome was what she wanted or not; and that an understanding of their options and connection to local resources leads to the health and well-being of the entire family. To that end, she seeks to educate and empower women and their partners through support, information, and resources. She is especially passionate about first-time parents and helping them on their path to parenthood.

My Logo
The Tree of Life frames the logo, with two women underneath. The pregnant woman is outlined in green, the color of new life. The female companion is outlined in blue, the color of peace and calm. The pregnant woman is embraced by the other woman the same way that a doula supports and encourages the birthing woman. |
