What is belly binding?
Belly binding is an ancient practice that involves wrapping the new mother's belly (typically from hip to sternum) to aid in healing and support. A warming paste or warming oils can be included.
Belly Binding FAQs
Benefits of belly binding
  • Prevention of hernias
  • Healing of Diastasis Recti
  • Help swollen organs return to a normal state (especially with the warming paste/oils)
  • Tighten the abdomen and help restore muscle tone (particularly when coupled with certain exercises)
  • Promote good posture
  • Provide extra support to the belly and lower back
When to NOT belly bind
  • If you have broken bones, you should wait until they have healed (including anything in the back, ribs, and pubic shelf).
  • If you have experienced any prolapse (including uterine, bladder, or rectal), please consult your doctor before belly binding.
  • If you have any allergies, please be sure to mention them - particularly to certain herbs and/or spices.
  • If you have had a C-section, you should wait until your incision has healed before belly binding.
